THE LITTLE ISLAND OF MADOL DUWA
has
been immortalized in the writings of the late Martin Wickremasinghe,
and if you're planning to holiday in the Koggala area, you mustn't
miss the opportunity offered by Club Horizon to spend the day
on the island, attended by their staff who dress up as aboriginal
'veddas'.
Many
of the guests who come to Club Horizon stay for about two weeks.
It's a great place for a family holiday and, in keeping with its
'club' theme, is a hive of activity. There are 8 animators on
the premises who initiate a variety of activities from 10am until
late night, at which point the in-house nightclub takes over.
During the day, you can play water polo or water volleyball in
the large pool, just hang out by the pool bar, work on your tan
or go for a swim in the natural rock pool. With billiards and
pool tables, archery, basketball, mini golf and a host of other
amusements available, you won't lack for things to do. The amphitheatre
comes alive at night with comedy shows, live music and cultural
dance troupes.
Club
Horizon also has a Kid's club and Nature Club, as well as an Ayurveda
massage center. The spacious Fisherman's Cove restaurant serves
eastern and western food, buffet-style. You can sample international
cuisine ranging from Japanese and Chinese to Italian and Indian
every night.
There
are 71 small and comfortable rooms here, of which 22 are cabanas
and there is also a luxury suite. All the rooms face the sea,
are air conditioned, have hot and cold water, phones and local
radio channels. The club has a very informal and cheery feel to
it and is easily accessible for the disabled. The extremely friendly
and attentive staff will look after all your requests, from special
meals to babysitters. The life here is idyllic - no touts, 24
hour security, and peace and quiet on the clean beach.
