THE IMPRESSIVE WATERFALL, CASCADING THROUGH LUSH VEGETATION,
that
greets visitors on the drive up to the main entrance, gives a
hint that this hotel is a real event. Enter the lobby and your
expectations are fulfilled. Vaulting three stories up to a fresco-like
scene of the Garden of Eden, the perfectly circular lobby, with
its white pillars and floral motif, is a splendid throw-back to
the grand style of the 20's and 30's.
The
drama doesn't end with the lobby. Approach the floor to ceiling
windows and a huge, playful swimming pool appears, curving away
to the beach and the sea. The main restaurant looks onto the same
scene through wall to wall windows, giving the effect of an aquarium.
And the main bar, on the other side of the pool, is decked out
like a port tavern, with pictures of old ships on the walls and
lots of brass, sturdy ropes and anchors. In between these three
venues is the all-new 'Timber Deck' al fresco restaurant, a delightful
addition that is sure to prove popular.
The
other recent addition will probably become the very heart of this
always evolving hotel, that is, the Ayurveda Spa. In a landscaped
garden of ponds, mini-waterfalls, stones, flowers and herbs you
will find individual cubicles constructed with timber, bamboo,
jute and thatch. In this calm, rustic setting enjoy and benefit
from concentrated ayurvedic treatments, that may be as short as
one day or as long as twelve days.
Eden
remains a thoroughly modern hotel, just a few years old, that lacks
none of the facilities of a five star establishment. There is a
first class snooker table, a separate games room, a discotheque,
gym, sauna, squash court and hair dressing salon. There is every
facility for conferences and banquets.
The
entire public area is air conditioned and so too are the rooms.
All the rooms have a satellite television, a minibar, a safe,
telephone and piped music. The deluxe rooms come with their own
butler service, the deluxe suites are each individually themed
(e.g. 'Rajasinghe', the last king of Kandy) and the two penthouse
suites have some of the best all round views on the whole coast.
