SITUATED SNUGLY IN THE MIDST OF THIS TRAVELER'S HAVEN,
which
has a perpetual relaxed holiday atmosphere about it. Built in
the mid-1980s, this unpretentious 2 two-storeyed hotel has 54
rooms with balconies that face the sea front. The rooms vary in
size, but they are all equipped with the standard amenities of
comfort such as air conditioning, hot and cold water and phones.
The bathrooms are modern and well maintained and provide basic
toiletries.
The
open Catamaran Restaurant is virtually on the beach and serves
both eastern and western food, and also has theme nights which
feature Indian, Chinese, Mongolian, Italian and Sri Lankan food
in buffet and Barbecue style. The larger indoor Lounge Restaurant
is used mainly for weddings and banquets. The evenings at the
hotel are peaceful, with calypso bands, magic shows or cultural
shows featuring devil dancers, and a make shift nightclub providing
occasional active evenings.
Reefcomber
has an in-house gem shop and a souvenir shop that also provides
essential items, and the hotel can also arrange for special meals,
cots and babysitters. In addition to the doctor on call, there
is also an Ayurvedic center with trained professionals who will
massage you with indigenous herbs and oils.
The
hotel can arrange a PADI qualified diving instructor, who can teach
you or accompany you on outings along this intriguing stretch of
coast, famous for its coral which you can see on glass-bottom boat
rides. You could go deep-sea fishing, snorkeling or surfing and
body surfing.
You
can also take a safari down the Madhu River in Balapitiya, visit
the Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda, the awesome Sinharaja rain forest
in Deniyaya, or see the moonstone mines and cinnamon plantation
in Meetoyagoda. Then there's the blow hole in Dickwella, stilt
fishing in Weligama and the bird sanctuary in Patana. The hotel
can also organise longer trips to the wild life sanctuaries at
Yala and Uda Walawe.
