IT IS ONLY FITTING THAT ONE OF THE COUNTRY'S LEADING HOTELS
should
grace one of the country's most famous scenic spots. The Sri Lankan
highlands boast many a waterfall and amongst the finest of them
is Hunas Falls. It seems to appear out of an uninterrupted sea
of green and noisily cascades down a sheer rock face. The spray
rises and drifts out over a vast valley. There is drama and romance
mixed in this wild spot.
The
hotel echoes that drama and romance as it stands secluded atop
its own hill surrounded by green mountains. In one direction it
is the green of the forest, in another direction it is the green
of row upon row of tea bushes, clinging low to the steep slopes.
The staff at the hotel will happily arrange for trips around the
area, be it a comfortable, educational stroll around a tea factory
or a strenuous trek along forest trails with the hotels
resident naturalist. Indeed, you don't even have to walk, as pony
rides and mountain bikes are ever-ready options. Whichever mode
you choose you are sure to see many familiar birds and quite a
few new ones too, as this is prime birders country.
In
truth, to see the birds you don't have to move from your room,
as each one has a large private balcony or terrace. The views
from here are so rewarding that you may have to be coaxed down
to enjoy the rest of the hotel. But the rest of the hotel has
plenty more to offer the holiday-maker in terms of relaxation
and recreation. Indoor facilities include billiards, table tennis,
a children's playroom and a youth room, while outside you will
find the tennis court, swimming pool and a lake for boating and
fishing.
Keen
gardeners may prefer a tour of the garden with the Head Gardener.
Over 80 horticultural flowering plants grace the formal garden.
The
hotel has a six hole mini Golf Course and the Championship Victoria
Golf Course is a 45 minute drive from the Hotel. With the historic
and culturally important town of Kandy nearby, there is everything
the demanding guest could wish for in this very special hotel.
