DRIVING
THROUGH MILES OF GREEN AND BROWN COUNTRYSIDE
you
suddenly chance upon an English garden vibrant with summer flowers
and a green, green lawn. We have arrived at Sudu Araliya, a modern
styled hotel with a friendly and open welcome.
The
gardens are simply breathtaking - with multi coloured flowerbeds
and green shrubs interwoven with miniature ponds and stepping
stones. Small cozy corners of the garden offer privacy and quiet,
as you look upon the 'sea of Parakrama' the second largest tank
in Sri Lanka.
The
architect has used the natural tank bund to landscape the garden,
while a series of ancient stones, probably part of a very old
pier have been used as part of the décor. An old tree,
gnarled with age spreads its mighty roots in every direction,
and stares at the lobby before it.
The
hotel offers thirty standard rooms, of which half face the tank
while the other fifteen the garden - both picturesque views. All
rooms are carpeted, air conditioned, with a mini bar, television,
radio, overhead fans and telephone. The rooms are spacious and
comfortable and are available in combinations of triple sharing
if requested.
The
lobby, open and airy, is very inviting. A restaurant, coffee shop
and bar are available. Live oriental music entertains the guests
each night. The main restaurant can be converted on occasion into
a conference hall or reception area.
If you
like a bit of action there are paddle boat trips on the tank, cycling
and jeep safaris, bird watching, night camping, fishing and elephant
safaris.
A
health center offering traditional herbal treatments plus sauna
and regular massage has also been recently added, together with
an open area for sun bathing convertible to a BBQ area at night.
If you would like to take a dip there is also a very inviting
swimming pool.
