THE
TAMARIND TREE IS JUST FOUR KILOMETRES FROM THE AIRPORT
but
it's a world away from the usual airport hotels. Somehow here
there is an 'Out of Africa' feel. Set beneath towering trees and
surrounded by extensive lawns, the bungalows promise privacy and
calm. Look out from your veranda, as you relax with a book on
the antique planter's chair, and that promise is realised.
It
is the sort of place you could live in and, indeed, a number of
businessmen, associated with the nearby Special Free Trade Zone,
do live here. Tourists will be passing through for just a day
or two as they start or finish their holidays. In this case you
couldn't ask for a better send off or a more promising first impression.
Some have been so impressed they returned to spend their whole
holiday here.
All
the bungalows are self-catering, with a fully equipped kitchen
and separate dining room. The balance rooms which are smaller
than the bungalows are clean and fresh, with air conditioning,
t.v., telephone, music and minibar. The original house on the
land (a cool, dim planter's house some eighty years old) now holds
the reception and lounge, the bar, games room and restaurants
(the main al fresco and an air conditioned
à la carte). Beside it stands a tamarind tree at least
a hundred years old.
During
the day the swimming pool and sun loungers (good quality) entice
people from their rooms. At cooler times of the day the tennis
court, gym and jogging track might be used. In the evening, guests
might go for the pool and table football or have a drink at the
bar but throughout the day the atmosphere is one of peace and
quiet. You will always be able to hear the birds singing in the
many varied trees.
